Skin Lumina Laser IPL Treatments

Laser IPL Hair Removal

Laser hair removal works by using a laser light which generates heat to damage or destroy the hair follicles. The process is painless and very effective, it is used throughout the world by both men and women. Almost all hair types can be removed, although we always carry out a “patch test” to ensure you do not suffer any adverse reactions. The exact price and duration of the treatment depends on many factors and can only be properly determined by our qualified professional during your consultation.

Skin Pigmentation Treatments

The IPL is the most recently developed treatment available for removing pigmentation marks. The IPL removes the areas of excessive pigmentation leaving the texture and colour of the skin natural and unchanged. Most brown birthmarks will fade with treatment but some reoccur. Brown age spots may fade or disappear with a single treatment. This treatment will not prevent the development of new separate areas of pigmentation. A regular use of uvb & uva sun lotion is essential to prevent new pigmentation. Usually  95% the pigmentation fading with age spots and sunburn freckles. Birthmarks are not as predictable and the degree of lightening may vary.

Skin Rejuvenation

The IPL hand piece delivers high intensity pulses of broadband light that is different from the narrow band light of lasers. IPL, which stands for Intense Pulsed Light, is non-ablative meaning that is does not damage the surface of the skin. The thermal effect of IPL also causes production of new collagen, leading to improvement in wrinkles. Skin lumina offers the most advanced non-invasive laser based treatments for the softening and removal of lines and wrinkles to leave skin looking younger, smoother and healthier.

Red Vein Treatment

Facial red veins, or ‘broken veins’, are fine visible veins appearing near the surface of the skin. They tend to become larger and more intensive over time. Facial red veins can also be associated with rosacea, a common condition of an unknown cause, affecting the facial skin. Facial thread veins, rosacea, spider naevi, port wine stains and legs vein treatments will be administered in our clinic by qualified professionals

Information on Laser and Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Treatments

How does the treatment work?

The therapist guides the light from the flash lamp to the treatment area. The unique IPL system carefully filters this light in two ways to ensure that only light with the correct wavelengths is allowed to reach your skin, so it is completely safe.

Hair contains pigment (melanin) that absorbs the light and converts it into heat. This heat transmits into the hair follicle, which is destroyed and rendered unable to produce new hair

Can all hairs be treated?

As the treatment relies on absorption of light in the hair pigment, the most efficient treatment is seen with dark hair and light skin. Skin Lumina system has settings for different hair and skin colours.

How long do the treatments take?

Large number of hairs are targeted with each flash of light, so treatment of the upper lip takes about 5 minutes, whereas a back or both legs takes 60-120 minutes.

Does it hurt?

Tolerance of pain is very individual from person to person. Most people describe the sensation as similar to that of a rubber band snapping onto the skin.

Do I need to take special precautions before and after treatment?

The light used is completely safe, visible light. Potentially harmful wavelengths are removed by the unique Filtering system. It is important not to remove hair by plucking, tweezing, waxing or use of creams during the entire four weeks before treatment. This ensures that as many hair follicles as possible contain a hair and thus can be destroyed by the light.

Since tanning takes place by accumulation of pigment (melanin) in the skin, it is also important to avoid tanning (sun, solarium or self tanning cream) before and during the treatment period. Otherwise your tanned skin will absorb more light, which makes treatment less effective.

Generally, no post-treatment care is necessary. But people with very sensitive skin may benefit from using a soothing cream for a few days after treatment. It is also recommended to limit sun exposure and to use sunscreen (min. SPF 30) for a few weeks following treatment.

How many treatments do I need?

Hair growth is cyclical, as hair follicles go through resting and growing phases. Only follicles in the growth phase contain hair and are destroyed by the heat. Resting hair follicles need to enter the growth phase before they can be effectively destroyed by the treatment. That’s why it is necessary to repeat the treatment at intervals until all hair follicles have been through the growth phase.

The length and timing of the growth cycles are affected by numerous factors such as body site, hair density, thickness, ethnic origin, hormonal status and age. Clinical studies have confirmed that at least 6-8 treatments are needed, and the intervals between treatments are typically 4 – 6 weeks.
